Starship

Starship

Multimedia installation, dimensions vary, 2014.

This installation depicts parallel versions of the interior of Carl Sagan’s “Spaceship of the Imagination,” a story telling device used to explore the cosmos.

WORLDS

WORLDS

Multimedia installation, dimensions vary, 2014.

A companion piece to Starship, this installation depicts imagined sources of life throughout the universe.

Day and Night

Day and Night

Rotating star wheels, collage on cardboard, 12 x 12 in.

Star wheels can be used not only to identify objects in the night sky, but also as a navigation tool. Rotating the star wheel represents both the spinning of a heavenly body and the revolution of that body around the Sun.

Dark Energy

Dark Energy

Chalk on chalkboard, 48 x 72 in., 2014.

From a series of chalkboards playing with the language of astrophysics, dark energy, never observed, is a theoretical energy which exists throughout space, accelerating the expansion of the universe.

Stardome and TERRAform

Stardome and TERRAform

Chalk on chalkboards, 48 x 72 in. each, 2014.

Terraforming is the process of modifying a celestial body’s atmosphere and temperature to be similar to the biosphere of Earth. Many claim that terraforming the moon and Mars is imperative to the survival of Earth’s life.

A Stardome is an architectural structure that can be quickly built with limited resources. It could be used in colonizing planets and its latices form the shape of a star.

Higgs and Hubble Bubble

Higgs and Hubble Bubble

Chalk on chalkboards, 48 x 72 in. each, 2014.

The Hubble Bubble theory reasons that the space around our observable universe is void. It is an outdated alternative to dark energy in explaining the universe’s expansion.

The Higgs Boson is the building block of all matter and has been named the God Particle.

A star catalogue is an astronomical reference which lists the stars. This catalogue is composed of alternating printed images of microscopic life and handwritten text.

What's Beyond

What's Beyond

Overhead projectors and black and white transparencies, dimensions vary, 2014.

These projections depict extraterrestrial surfaces that were thought to house life but have proven lifeless. The only life producing terrain in these images are the two photographs of Earth taken from the moon.

Terraform

Terraform

Projection, dimensions vary, 2014.

This pop-science reference depicts a possible result of terraforming. Terraforming is the process of modifying a celestial body’s atmosphere and temperature to be similar to the biosphere of Earth. Many claim that terraforming the moon and Mars is imperative to the survival of Earth’s life.
